All work and no play

My head in the cloud.

I’ve decided on a domain name

At first I wanted a TLD. And I wanted something that had something to do with my All work, no play slogan. But of course, almost everything was already registrered.

But then I found that there are many more domains available on my national (.no) domain extention.

So i could be a little more choosy. Allworknoplay.no is a little long, so then I thought about using an abbreviation like awnp.no, but that just looks plain ugly.

I ended up with noplay.no

It pretty, short and as a statement in it that is in line with my “all work no play” working-title. And maybe after a while I could just change the name of my blog to “no play”. I think that’s better than my current title, and it isn’t that obvious where I got the name from… I didn’t even like that movie that much either.

We Wouldn’t be Humans Without Music

The cover story in the up-coming edition of Der Spiegel is about explaining music in scientific terms. The goal is to find out what music really is, and why we react to music the way that we do.

A more user-friendly book

There is a quote in this article Structures of Persuasion from the creator of a new literary magazine, The Believer, Heidi Julavits:

[Q]: And why did you put the Table of Contents on the back cover of the magazine?
[Heidi Julavits]: If you think about it, that’s actually the easiest place to find it.

That is a brilliant idea. Why not make the back cover a little more useful – use the space for a user-friendly table of contents instead of low-credibility sales-copy!

Finally, It Works

I’ve spent about 5 hours today trying to get the archiving function to do what it is supposed to do. It probably did, but I had the URL pointing to the directory wrong in the settings. But that wasn’t the only problem. First, I tried to have my archive in a separate sub-folder. It never worked until i saw this post:

Some Problems With my First (Second Really…) Blog

I can’t get the archive function to work as it is supposed to. I have created a new folder on the server for the archives, but I get this error message everytime I try to publish something, especially when I try to republish the entire site. (550 Access not allowed). And I think I maybe need to republish the entire site to get the archives function to work.

I should probably check the support forums.

There isn’t much to archive anyways…

We Want to go to Barcelona

Me and my girlfriend (co-habitant) want to go to Barcelona this fall. We’ve checked some ticket options, and it is not that cheap at all. The best thing we found was with Scandinavian Airlines (my favorite).

Oslo – Barcelona, September 19
12:25 OSL – 13:35 CPH SK0463 SK
14:30 CPH – 17:20 BCN SK3503 JK

Barcelona – Oslo, September 22
10:35 BCN – 13:35 CPH SK3506 JK
15:00 CPH – 16:05 OSL SK0464 SK

Adult 1 2 771 NOK
Adult 2 2 771 NOK
Total 5 542 NOK

And since we have a travel voucher for 300 Euros each, (from our last trip, first-class intercontinental flight to New York…;)), we only have to find the remaining 50 Euros each and the flight is paid for.

We also found the cheapest hotel i Barcelona. Not exactly cheap, but still, not as expensive as most of them. At 77 Euroes per night, it adds up to about 240 Euros total.

Not too bad for a weekend in Barcelona!!

Now, we just have to call Scandinavian Airlines to check whether we can book the flight with our voucher.

My First Post on my Second Attempt at Building a Blog

So.. Here I am, trying to publish my first post on my brand new blog, at Blogger.com.
I’ve already tried to use the Movable Type blog, CGI-based, but I haven’t got around using it yet.
But this seems really easy. I think I’ll go for this blog actually!!
